Product Description

In “Hijra – Deframing Postmigration,” Rawan Almukhtar meticulously examines narratives of passing in connection with their relationship to race, gender, and landscape. By conceiving the act of crossing borders as a means of queering, he extends an invitation to the viewer to witness migrating bodies that defy the established orders of lines. This is construed as an act of agency, wherein the body stretches into space, elucidating the transformative potential inherent in the act of crossing. Bodies that resist the constraints of borders and harsh delineations rupture established order regimes. The act of crossing borders is witnessed as a transformative effort, an act of queering space that embodies non-conformity as the bodies expand beyond prescribed limits. By framing crossing borders as an inherently queer act, Almukhtar challenges conventional notions of boundaries. He invites viewers to witness migrating bodies that defy the constraints imposed by lines on maps. In doing so, he emphasizes the agency of the migrating body, highlighting its capacity to transcend physical and metaphorical borders and assert its presence in new spaces.
