This piece was a response to an article about ME/CFS, which has long been known to be a physical, physiological NOT psychological disease, yet many medical professionals still cling to the old (poorly evidenced) mental illness idea, with resulting major harm to patients. This is applicable to many other illnesses too, not least long covid.

You can turn a mentally well person with a physical illness in to a traumatised person who is close to the edge, simply by disbelieving them. Then you get to pat yourself on the back – I knew she was mad. That explains everything , while washing your hands of the responsibility to:

a) Care for their physical illness and b) First do no harm.

Circular logic is not science. I have much lived experience of these dynamics.

Note on skin: Since my first 2020 covid infection, light pressure can cause raised burning skin up to 2 hrs. Many foods have similar effect (widespread flush, swelling).
