In his SHATTERED series, Ernst Miesgang breaks up ceramic objects and assembles the shards into sculptures that follow the natural rhythm and formal canon of anatomy. At first glance, they look like medical models. On closer inspection, they reveal themselves to be works of art in their own right. Associations with Hieronymus Bosch’s pieced-together fantasy figures or baroque still lifes are evoked. The shards are firmly glued together with stone glue (epoxy resin).
