Straitjacket

Product Description

“Straitjacket” is a commentary on the pressures—physical, psychological, and social—but also on the artistic pressure to strive for success, to be visible, to survive. Drawing on Thomas Bernhard’s term “global career straitjacket” (Holzfallen, pp. 136/137), the performance reveals the paradox of an artistic life plan: The collective supports one another to live with and through art—while simultaneously tying itself into a structure that also creates pressure. The desire for visibility can become a shackle. This solidarity also entails limitations. The self-made jacket represents precisely this: protection and constraint, support and inhibition at the same time.
The body in the jacket becomes a projection surface—for one’s own ambitions, fears, and projections. And for those who are just beginning to become artists themselves.
