Sebastian Quast

Sebastian Quast (1997 in Munich; raised in St. Gallen, CH) is a German-Swiss artist. He lives and works in St. Gallen and Munich, and studied with Peter Kogler (AdBK, Munich) and Hans Schabus (die Angewandte, Vienna). In his artistic practice, Quast engages with questions of facade and appearance, the formation of communities, and the capitalist appropriation of authenticity. He primarily works with textiles, which invite a tactile and physical encounter with art. Quast s works often transcend the traditional notion of the autonomous artwork, instead inviting viewers to actively become part of the piece. He conceives his works as stages or frameworks that enable encounter and exchange. As co-founder of team ille and co-initiator of the artist-run space space n.n. in Munich, he also extends these concerns into curatorial and organizational formats.
