Product Description
Drawing on the tradition of the European still life, the work reinterprets one of the central genres of painting. Where the classical still life stages order, harmony, and contemplation, movement, sound, and playful appropriation take their place here. The supposedly still image becomes a space of life.
The children depicted intervene in the composition, drawing across it and transforming its meaning. The still life does not appear as a completed order, but as an open space that is constantly changing through new perspectives and experiences. The children’s interventions do not question the art historical canon, but rather continue and expand it.
The phrase “Still leben” refers to the double meaning of the term. While the historical genre promises calm and control, the image unfolds the opposite: curiosity, noise, and vitality. It is precisely in this contrast that its irony lies.
The work understands tradition not as something unchangeable, but as something that remains alive through appropriation, transformation, and further development. It asks who shapes cultural images, which lived realities become visible within them, and how a shared cultural heritage can be retold again and again.
