I ve been coming to this hospital to manage chronic health conditions for 22 years. For some inexplicable reason, I m always compelled to pause when I pass the window that looks out over this flat roof. Sometimes, nothing but grey. Sometimes golden reflections, or ghostly ripples echoing the scenes from the adjacent corridor. Whichever scene presents itself, there s always a feeling of standing in the presence of my past self, cheering her on, and standing on her shoulders to lift myself over the next hurdle.
