Product Description
Nikolaus Kohout’s artistic practice explores how realities come into being, what shapes them, and how we can transform them. “Bright Light” is considered one of his key works. It depicts a ceiling lamp floating in an empty space, surrounded by insects. As the viewer moves closer to the image, their perception begins to change: the supposed flies transform into small human figures who, drawn to the light, move towards the lamp and become trapped inside it.
The work therefore questions not only the limitations of our own perception, but also becomes a metaphor for dangerous social dynamics. It raises the pressing question of how we can find our own conscious path towards freedom, away from the seductive will o’ the wisps of our time. What alternatives are there to the herd mentality of populist and polarizing ideologies in order to build a strong and independent European community? How can we create a self determined and solidaristic Europe with enough courage and foresight to offer a genuine alternative in addressing the climate crisis, artificial intelligence, and international conflicts?
