Hybrid Art Fair – Ey!Studio

Back
Hybrid Art Fair is a different and disruptive international contemporary art event focused on presenting experimental proposals and site-specific installations. In its seven editions, it has positioned itself as the Spanish springboard par excellence for new artists and a meeting point for collectors. Hybrid Art Fair offers a unique space to give visibility to adventurous projects and expand the professional horizons of independent initiatives and young galleries. Hybrid Art Fair collaborates with Parallel Vienna since 2022. The fair exchange flagship participants, this year representing Hybrid Art Fair will exhibit the Madrid's artist run space, Ey!Studio presenting the artists duo SomosNosotros. SomosNosotros are Begonya Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) and Alfonso Fernández (Sevilla, Spain). Their work is based on a contextual analysis of the contradictions, scepticisms, uncertainties and paradoxes of situations that directly challenge them. They are interested in investigating how we become self-precarious, self-exploited, how we endure our precarious living conditions with patience and illusion, becoming multidisciplinary and polyvalent subjects living in a mirage of autonomy. They generate narratives that hover between reality and fiction to bring them to the exhibition space through performance, video, installation, sculpture or textuality. They have a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, a postgraduate degree in Education and Culture from the UdG and a Master's degree in Research and Creation from the Complutense University of Madrid. They have shown their work on numerous occasions such as at the Centro Cultural de España en Panamá, the TEA, La Laboral, the Da2, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and many others. They have been awarded the ArteLateral-OpenStudio Prize, Les Clíniques Es Baluard Grant, Can Felipa Prize, XXVI Circuitos Prize, Injuve Creation Prize, Sala d' Art Jove Prize, Hamaca-Museo Reina Sofía Prize, among others. They have given workshops at the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía, the Museo Thyssen, the Centro Cultural de España en Panamá, Art Madrid and Injuve, among others. SomosNosotros presents a series of pieces that make up a video installation. They understand the tired body in contemporaneity, as a productive and reproductive body that adapts, transforms and becomes an extension of the tools of labor that does not stop producing, even while sleeping. In the words of Byung-Chul Han "The depressive man is that animal laborans who exploits himself, namely: voluntarily, without external coercion. He is, at the same time, executioner and victim". In this project, they start from a historiographic inquiry into the leisure spaces linked to water, intended for the relaxation and tranquility of the tired, self-exploited, depressed and stressed working mind and body. They have worked with sources of documentation from archives of archaeological interpretation centers and archaeological sites so they propose the proposal as the remains of our civilization of an uncertain future, all accompanied by an electroacoustic symphony composed with the frequency of 432hz that helps to stimulate the brain to release endorphins.
